🐎 Features
✅ Each stable can be configured to allow or deny access to the breeding system menu.
✅ The breeding system menu can be player-locked and/or job-locked.
✅ The breeding menu contains three options:
Create – Start the breeding process.
Manage – View and manage ongoing breedings and foals.
Check Cooldown – See remaining cooldowns for unborn foals.
🐎 BREEDING PROCESS OVERVIEW
✅ Select Parents: To begin breeding, choose one adult stallion and one adult mare from your owned horses.
✅ Payment & Naming: A cost check will occur, then you’ll be able to name your future foal. The foal’s gender will be revealed at this stage so you can choose an appropriate name.
✅ Coat Calculation: The foal’s coat is determined using our breeding coat calculation engine based on the parents’ information.
Two parameters from the sirevlc_horses breeds table config are used:
BREEDING_COLOR
BREEDING_RESULT (color + pattern)
The system checks the breed table in the config (or the player-owned horses in the database) for coats that match the breeding_result parameter, then applies that coat’s coat and tint values. If there are multiple matches, it will randomly pick one from the pool.
✅ Inherited Elements: The following traits are taken from one of the two parents:
Model
Scale
Breed name
Category number
Stats (or average stats, if enabled in sirevlc_horses_config)
Selling price
Personality
Weather type sensitivity
✅ Pregnancy & Phases: The mare becomes pregnant and the foal enters the breeding phases.
Default: 30 minutes per phase (configurable)
If aging system is enabled, it takes over once the foal reaches adulthood.
✅ Restrictions:
A pregnant mare cannot be sold.
If the mare dies of old age, the foal disappears.
Foals can be sold once they reach phase 1.
Breeding cooldown begins after a successful breeding and continues through the phases until adulthood.
✅ Foal Display : Once born, the foal appears in the manage menu.
✅ Breed Classification:
If both parents are the same breed, the foal is purebred.
If not, the foal is labeled mixed.
📋 MANAGE MENU
In the Manage section, you can view your foal’s parents, their information, and, once the foal is born, all of its details.
There are 5 breeding phases in total:
✅[0] Phase 0 – Gestation Period
Your mare will be visibly pregnant during this phase, but you can still call her outside and set her as your saddle horse. Some riders use their mares even in late term.
If injured, she can still be healed at the stable. Important: If your mare dies from old age during this phase, you will lose both the mare and the foal. The mare cannot be sold while pregnant.
Once the foal is born, you will receive a notification announcing your newest addition.
✅[1] Phase 1 – Weanling
You can see your foal with its parents in the Manage Menu.
You can also call your foal outside, care for it, and have it follow you around.
✅[2] Phase 2 – Yearling
Similar to Phase 1, but your foal is now a yearling. It will be larger but still not rideable.
✅[3] Phase 3 – Youngster
Your foal is now big enough to start training.
You can purchase tack, back it, and ride it, although it’s not fully grown yet.
✅[4] Phase 4 – Adult
Your foal has reached full size and is now considered an adult horse.
It will leave the breeding paddock and move to your Owned Horses Menu.
If the Aging System is enabled, it will now take over.
⏳ COOLDOWN CHECK
✅ Displays the cooldown time remaining for each of your unborn foals.
🐎 HOW OUR BREEDING SYSTEM WORKS ?
We went for a realistic system, meaning that just like in reallife, genes work kind of like onions. There are "layers" to them if you will.
1. To simplify the explanation to the max:
As in reallife, horses have a base color (red - black - bay) as a first "layer" and to that other genes can get added on, creating multiple layers.
Example: A Buckskin horse has a base coat color of "Bay" + one "Cream" gene which dilutes certain parts of the coat and that gives you a Buckskin.
So the genotype is "Bay + Cream" basically.
That makes up your base coat.
To that, you then can have pattern coats (genes that "add on" elements, for example the Tobiano gene that gives you white markings usually starting from the shoulder down !)
So the genotype of this particular horse would be "Bay + Cream" (base) + "Tobiano" (pattern) = Buckskin Tobiano which is considered a pattern coat in our engine.
2. How does breeding work ?

Just like in real life, when you cross two different genotypes, you can end up with a random selective mix of all of the possible out-comes from the genes that are involved.
If I cross a Buckskin mare : Bay base + Cream (solid coat no pattern)
with a Smoky Cream Tobiano Stallion : Black base + Cream + Cream + Tobiano (pattern coat)
We have:
Red, Bay or Black foal. Since Bay genes in our system are the most versatile, they are always considered to be Heterozygous so black gene + bay gene AND are considered as silent red gene carriers and since there are 3 cream genes here flying around you will 100% get a cream dilute foal.
So, your result will vary from a single cream dilute (Palomino, Smoky Black or Buckskin) OR a double dilute (Cremello, Smoky Cream or Perlino) ! And you have a 50% chance of getting either a Solid coat or a Tobiano coat.
As you can see, the genes of both parents are taken into account. All possible variables were researched and written by hand to ensure you have as many results as possible depending on the gene mixes !
You will be able to find a full list of all base coats and their genotypes + all of our pattern coats and their genotypes in GENOTYPES AND COATS.txt file in sirevlc_breeding.
When you make a new coat and want it to be in the breeding system, just find an existing genotype you think suits the coat from the list either in the purchase horse menu from sirevlc horses or add it as a preset in the config.
⚠ LIMITATIONS
Our breeding system is inspired by real equine genetics, but due to in-game restrictions, it is not 100% representative of real-life genetic outcomes.
🎨 Coat & Color Limitations
Not all real-world genetic combinations could be added because the game has fixed coat patterns and fixed color palettes.
Only a selection of existing coats and patterns could be implemented.
Some coats may not perfectly match their real-life counterparts.
🧬 Genetic Parameters
The system works with two main parameters:
BREEDING_COLOR (base coat color)
BREEDING_RESULT (base coat + pattern if there is one)
Stacking multiple patterns is not possible.
Even if an in-game coat visually shows multiple patterns, only one pattern is stored in the genotype.
Example: An in-game “Dun Overo” will have the genotype color + Overo, because in our hierarchy, Overo ranks higher than Dun.
The pattern hierarchy is documented in sirevlc_breeding/GENOTYPES AND COATS.txt.
🐴 Special Breeds
To give you more breeding options, infertile hybrids like mules and zorses are breedable in our system.
Exception: The donkey is not breedable, it’s not treated like the other horses in the base game and has significant limitations.
🎯 Coat Presets
Almost 400 new horse coat presets have been added to cover possible results from our genetic calculator engine.
If you don’t want certain coats included in breeding results, you can disable them in the sirevlc_horses config.
At least one coat must match each breeding result to ensure the system works.
You can also add your own coat presets to the sirevlc_horses config breed table.
Use existing genotypes for BREEDING_COLOR and BREEDING_RESULT to make them compatible with the breeding system.
See sirevlc_horses config breed table and GENOTYPES AND COATS.txt in sirevlc_breeding for details.
